Circle time and all things toddler....

Today we started a whole new adventure! My cousin, Shannon; my sister in law, Jamie and our friend Holly, along with all of our children - biologically and babysitting-wise - started to meet today for the purpose of trying to educate the kids. All of the kids are 3 and below, the oldest being 4 soon and the youngest being 4 months. I know we are brave souls. (-;

First we let the kids play for over an hour to release some of their excitement of getting together. They are always so thrilled to see each other! They merrily played away the morning while we cut our letters and shapes out on my cricut machine.
After we were prepared, we had them clean up and then called them in for "circle" time. Shannon worked in a daycare for years so she is very familiar with circle time so she ran the show. We all sat in the circle learning about the letter "A", colors and shapes. We sang various songs and had some great laughs watching the kids get so excited. They all loved it, although Colt (my nephew)wanted to do "rolls" in the middle of the circle and Ally told me that she wanted to go rest!

Once "circle" time was over, we had a "picnic" lunch. We made the kids peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and they ate their lunch on a blanket on the floor so they could all be together.

Once the kid's picnic was over, we cleaned up, and the adults got to eat at the table. Lucky us! The kids played with minimal squabbling....always a nice treat while we got some "adult" conversation in. Being a stay at home mom can be hard at times, when there is no one around to talk to so this will be a nice break for us to enjoy the company of others.

Each week, we plan on working on a new letter of the alphabet at home, and then using our meeting to reinforce the skills. I think having a group of kids will definitely make it exciting for the kids, and hopefully make it fun to learn! Plus we want to do arts and crafts projects and field trips. I think it is going to be a great journey for us and today was definitely a great start!
