Happy Mothers Day!!!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers out there!!! (-:
So here was my project for the day....
a sugar cookie bouquet for my wonderful mom, and one of my grandmoms.
I didn't have much time to work on the presentation for the cookie bouquet. I had wanted to attach a nice homemade card and wrap the flower pot with paper, but time was limited so I basically threw the cookies on a stick in a flower pot with floral foam and added some tissue paper.
I have been admiring the handiwork over at Bake at 350 for awhile now, and finally worked up the guts to try to create a decorated cookie. Bake at 350 is AWESOME...she has so many great tips for decorating cookies, and her cookie decorating is AMAZING. What an inspiration!
I made a sugar cookie recipe, cut out the shapes with cookie cutters, and then put skewers in the end of each cookie. After baking them and allowing them to cool, I took royal icing and piped an outline around the cookie. I allowed that piping to harden, then I thinned out the icing to basically "flood" the cookie with icing. I am sure I didn't add enough water to "flood" it correctly, but I used a toothpick to spread it around so it was fine.

Also, I noticed that the skewers seemed "loose" so I carefully took them out of the cookies, and used royal icing to "glue" them into the cookie. Once the icing hardened, they were very secure and we had no problems with them remaining on the stick.

Now that I have half a clue of what I am doing, I think next time will be easier and I can work on the presentation better. Definitely a work in progress....
