This project is for the birds...Pinecone Bird Feeder

Today Allyson and I did our share to feed the massive bird population that seems to overtake our yard on a daily basis, and we couldn't have picked a better day. It is 55 degrees and a gorgeous bright sun shiny day!

At Christmas my dear sister in law, Jamie, braved the bitter cold to collect a nice stash of pinecones just for me! So today, we put them to use...most of you probably did this in school or with your kids at one time or another. We made pinecone bird feeders with peanut butter and bird seed.

We bought a jar of cheap off brand peanut butter -

around here our birds aren't so picky. (-;

I used some curling ribbon, just because it was the first ribbon I could find. I attached the ribbon to the pinecones with a knot before we began.
And of course, you need the main event, a bag of birdseed.
Slop that peanut butter all over that pinecone..a great job for a 2 year old...

Then plop it on a paper plate full of birdseed and roll it around. The peanut butter adheres the birdseed perfectly.

And Waalah! Hang in a bush or tree, and you got a bird buffet.

Allyson spent the rest of the afternoon running around in the sunshine, and keeping an eye on her birdfeeders.

She gets so excited feeding the birds stale bread, I knew this project was going to be a great idea for her!

What a great idea! I did that as a kid, but forgot all about it. I'm going to do this with my kids this week. Thanks!!

Love your blog!

We made bird feeders yesterday. Making memories...isn't that what Mommy-hood is all about?
